Slow Cooker Spaghetti Sauce

When it comes to spaghetti, I must admit that I am pretty lazy...dump a bottle of Ragu and maybe add some meat lazy. I recently found a new recipe for some spaghetti sauce. I put in a little extra effort...and boy did it pay off! This recipe is definitely a keeper...and the best part--it made enough so that I could freeze half of it. Now next time I make spaghetti all I have to do is pull the sauce out of the freezer and reheat that's my kind of lazy!

Spaghetti with Slow-Simmered Meat Sauce
From Pillsbury Savvy Shoppers Cookbook
  • 1 lb lean ground beef
  • 1/2 lb bulk Italian pork sausage
  • 1 medium onion chopped
  • 1 medium bell pepper (any color) chopped
  • 2 cloves chopped garlic
  • 2 medium carrots, finely chopped
  • 1 28 oz. can crushed tomatoes, undrained
  • 1 8 oz can tomato sauce
  • 1 6 oz can tomato paste
  • 1 Tbsp brown sugar
  • 3 tsp Italian seasoning
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp pepper
In a 12 inch skillet, cook beef and sausage. Drain. Spray 3 to 4 quart slow cooker with cooking spray. In cooker, mix beef mixture and all remaining ingredients. Cover and cook on low for 6-8 hours.
